Yes. Usually by a few inches- slows down until you're 21.

Sleep lots, eat lots, and exercise lots.

I was 5'11" at 16. I ended up being a shade over 6'2".

It's different for everyone though. I knew a guy in HS that was 6' at 13. He ended at 6'3". Another was 5'8" at 16, and he ended at 6'2" too.

Hell, my son has spouted almost 4" in the last year. Kid hit 12 years old and is suddenly shooting up with a vengeance.

My brother in law hit 6'2 when he was 13 and then stopped growing. You never know.

That was pretty much me, minus the part about being your brother-in-law.

You sure that's not you, Jared?

[–]jsalathe0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I grew an inch in my twenties, but one of my good friends stopped grow at a short 16.

Bottom line, ask your dad how he grew, it is probably how you will grow too.

[–]Whiteout-0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends. Ask family members when they stopped growing. I stopped at 13 at a towering 5'6" but I know people who had a spurt of a few more inches into their twenties.

[–]Elfclan300 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes

[–]Eternasphere0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My dad used to be 5'9 and with old age shrunk down about 3 inches. My mom is like 5'5.

I've been 5'9 since i was 16 and it's never changed. I don't have a single relative that's taller than 5'9, so i don't expect it to change.

If you have any tall relatives you still have a chance. Ask your dad if he had a spurt after 16.

Anything's possible until you're 21.

  1. Slightly
  2. Your height is a minor factor in the overall SMV equation.

[–]Pitchfork51 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had the weirdest growth spurt ever. At 15 I jumped from like 5 3 to 5 11 and never grew after that.

I was so uncoordinated it was ridiculous for like a year.

My older brother kept growing till the ripe age of 21.

I, on the other hand, grew 15cm between measurements on my 14th and 15th birthdays. My mom took off to another country few months before that and my diet went to zero. Haven't gained a cm since.

Eat your carrots, kids.

I grew from 5'8 to 6'3 from the age of 17 to 20.

A friend of mine was 6'1 first year of high school and now he's still the same at 21.

I stopped growing at 17 and then in my 30s I gained 2 inches.

Penis enlargement surgery?

[–]abdada0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Height. Not common but not rare either.

[–]IMGRINDIN_IPROMISE 2 points2 points2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

How does this happy, I want to grow 2 more inches ina few years!!!

[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No one knows why. I actually had my thyroid labs done because I literally had growing pains again and stretch marks from the rapid growth. Endocrinologist said they see it randomly with no reason for the boost.

I did change my diet a year earlier but doubt it was the cause.

[–]flying_cumshot 2 points2 points2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

were you working out and going to the gym during the time you had this late adult growth spurt?

[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Definitely but not any more than over the 3 years prior. Way more than I ever did between 13 and 26 tho.

The only thing a doctor suggested was that I was very undernourished as a child. I grew up dirt poor so it's possible. My dad is 6'2" and my bro is 6'3" and did not grow up as poor. I definitely ate a lot in my late 20s.

[–]flying_cumshot1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

hmm... very interesting. hopefully I get a growth spurt too. I was also undernourished as a child and my younger brother is taller than me.

[–]IMGRINDIN_IPROMISE 1 point1 point1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What did you eat? lol

[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just cut junk food and increased red meat and the like. Endocrinologist said it wasn't diet related. Just a growth spurt later in life.

With a fused growth plate, there does not seem to be a physical mechanism that can cause a vertical increase in height. Even with the presence of IGF and growth hormone, or a pituitary malfunction, a height increase would not occur since the bones are no longer lengthening. Then what other physical process can make a person permanently taller if the bones are not lengthening? Did a radiologist examine your growth plate?

[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ive heard that. Don't believe it personally.

My height has been measured since the age of 15 by the exact same metal yardstick on a wall in my GP's home office. A stick he's had since the 70s. Other patients shrunk, I was the only one who grew at all. He was worried about a tumor or endocrine failure but I tested negative across the board.

My driver's license still says 5'6" since I never changed it.

[–]Senior Endorsedmax_peenor-2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. If you are concerned, go to a doctor. There is still some time left, but not a lot. I have a friend with a son with a serious problem. They put him on drugs that halted puberty (technically you are still in it) and then hardcore growth hormones; they do this combo because apparently it dramatically reduces cancer risk, or at least that was what I was told. The kid shot up 5" in a couple years. Problem solved. It will feminize you for a while, including loss of hair, but it'll all come raging back when you are off the drugs. I doubt that kid regrets it now, but HS could be a little rough.
