20M, how do I converse with a girl?

My buddy gave me good advice one time saying if you just ask them questions normally they will talk for a long time. Mostly its true. Family is a topic most can relate to. What there interests or passions are. (Sometimes its good just to check thier facebook likes, movies and books etc..) just to get an idea and then you can subtlety work that into something they say. Its a white lie and not a big deal, just gives you a little more ammo for a conversation or thinking you both uave something in common. Try to see if they are interested in meeting in a public place then from there maybe a walk ? It sounds corny but movement helps to stimulate the mind and body and being in different places helps you point out things "look at that person, would you ever wear anything like that ?" You can reference the world around you. Just remember you are young and it seems like the goal is getting a woman you like but the real goal is discovering what works for you and what you like and want and dont want. Its a journey so theres never a "oh man im so dumb now she hates me forever, I'll never get a girl like her again" moment, theres alot of fish in the sea. It seems dire and like you fuck up sometimes but we're all human, its all a process so dont be afraid, sometimes its awkward and sometimes not. Just keep on keeping on. Sounds simple, but simple doesnt mean its easy. Good luck friend (even though you dont need it, just be you).

Oh shit, I don't remember making this post. 100% relatable. I can speak to girls, but I end up being boring AF, or at least that's what I believe, because I end up talking about random things, getting a laugh or two, and then silence. How the fuck do I get to know the girl this way? Or at least being funny
