Hi Seddit. I'm curious if anyone has any tips for picking up women if you're hard of hearing. This disability has many ripple effects that throw most PUA advice out the window:

  • Conversations in noisy places (bars, clubs, large boisterous groups) are nearly impossible without razor sharp focus on a single person's face. The look of intense concentration (furrowed brow, frown) isn't particularly sexy.

  • Mild speech impairment combined with inability to follow multiparty conversations makes asserting yourself in the conversation impossible. It takes concentration to understand me, so everyone is strongly inclined to simply tune me out for a more intelligible speaker.

  • Speech and hearing impairment make playful, nuanced banter difficult at best. It's nearly impossible to pick up on nuances in speech, and I have no control over how playful my own voice is.

To my credit, I'm very good a picking up visual cues. Also, aside for my linguistic skills, I DHV like crazy (tall, fit, good looking, good salary, excellent sense of style, creative, multiple talents, many hobbies, broad and deep knowledge base).

My coping strategies so far are:

  • Find dates online and plan the date for a quiet place. The problem here is that it's really hit or miss whether my date will accept my speech impairment. Those that do tend to be introverts that are more interested in LTRs.

  • Date geeky women. Problem here is that I don't like stereotypical geeky activities, and geeky women tend to want LTRs. All of my long term relationships have been with this type, and I wind up feeling extremely socially isolated.

  • Go after foreign women. Since they don't know what the hell people are talking about either, it's a better match. Problem here is that they're hard to find, and lots of them are really reluctant to get intimate if they're only in town a couple days.

Any other advice or coping strategies?
