sounds like a good enough excuse to me. however, you should be opening men and less attractive girls before the hot ones for social proof anyways. if they see you talking to other people, they'll probably just assume you're friends and won't ask if you actually came together anyways.

people always act nervous about solo sarging, but for me, even when i show up to the venue with my other friends i end up splitting away from them anyways, and girls never seem to ask me where my friends are or if i came alone.

I was in a similar situation during the summer. What I ended up doing was going to bars before it got crowded and talking to bartenders. If there are only 2 or 3 people at the bar you usually can have a decent conversation with them.

In this situation you are not there to sarge (unless its a HB bartender) but to expand your network and build social proof.

As for conversation starters just say that you are there to chillax/pre-game/watch a game and just ask how their day is going. Most of the time they will keep the conversation going as long as you are very sociable.

Make sure to always tip them very well so they remember you and if you become good friends with them you can get to skip lines which builds your social proof.

You will almost never get asked why you're out alone if you are doing it right. If you do get asked, it doesn't matter what you say, just brush it off and change the subject shortly thereafter.

Sit at the bar, make friends with the bartender and the people sitting around you, and then start opening girls.

Protip: for people who have anxiety about going to bars by yourself, one thing you can do is the next time you arrange to meet some friends out, arrive really early, like an hour or more, and take that time to open random people. You'll see it's no big deal. I do this pretty often because it's fun.

My fake story when I head out solo is pretty good: "My friends flaked out on me at the last minute, but I was already in a really great mood to come here tonight, so I went out anyway."

Does this come up in conversation? Is anyone asking you, "Hey where are all your friends?"

If not, being self-entertained is social proof enough, as they say at RSD. If yes, tell them cool stories about what your friends are up to. Ultimately this question is about your state, not about anything anyone else is thinking.
