Hey everyone, looking for some clarity because I can’t tell if I’m overthinking this or if the situation is just weird.

I (23M) met a friend’s sister(let’s call her T) at a birthday dinner earlier this year. We talked a bunch, flirted a bit, I bought her a drink, nothing crazy, but the chemistry was there. Exchanged numbers and IGs. T lives in a city 6 hours away from me. But I later found out that she is moving to a city an hour away from me in January. Didn't talk to her after this.

Fast-forward to November: our whole friend group stayed at her sister’s place for a 4-day Friendsgiving weekend. And this girl was a bag of mixed signals. 

During the day:

  • Neutral conversations
  • Some light flirting. 
  • Sometimes completely cold
  • Followed me into a room sober when I went to read/have alone time; we actually had a pretty intimate conversation then

At night (after drinks and while playing games):

• Cuddling and hugging me; even asked for a foot massage

• Fell asleep with her head on my thigh while holding hands

• Sniffed my neck (??? lol)

• Got jealous when I talked to another girl at a bar

• Kept asking our mutual friend what I was doing

Two of the other girls in the friend group came up to me on our last night while we were out to ask if I liked T. I had decided the boys were going to split from the girls that night when we didn’t like the bar we were in. When the girls finally found us at the new bar, I was talking to another girl. On both occasions, her mood had apparently changed, and she had said we only left the previous bar to go talk to “bops”. I did tell them I like her, but felt she was giving mixed signals. They just told me to be more intentional towards her. T got more physically affectionate later that night(that’s when the neck sniffing happened). However, it didn’t escalate to kissing or anything more, since both of our siblings are part of this friend group, and I didn’t feel comfortable with that in front of them.

That night, while we were cuddling, I had talked about coming down to her city to see her before she moved closer, and she had agreed. The next morning, she was kinda cold again. Before we all left that evening, I told her we should talk more, and she said, “I definitely agree,” before giving me a hug.

But texting is an entirely different story. We have had only one text conversation since then, and it seems friendly, but she wasn't really giving anything. So I just ended the conversation.

I definitely want to see her when she moves here, but I’m torn. 

Do I keep light, spaced-out contact until January to keep the door open?

Or should I wait it out and only message when she’s moved closer?

And is her being affectionate mainly while drinking a red flag, or just her personality loosening up? Any advice you can give me on navigating this would be helpful. I genuinely can’t tell if she likes me but is just a terrible texter, or if I’m misreading the whole thing.
