When I think of a "neg," I'm always afraid they'll take it personally and get offended (in my case people I already know/friends but am potentially interested in). For example, today I' asked what someone was doing this weekend and they said some normal stuff so I was thinking I would say, "damn that sounds boring, how about you come with me to do X (grab dinner) instead?" but immediately I would just drop it and be like "oh, that's cool." Is that even a good line?
