I doubt they are correlated at all. I've gotten media advice from girls I don't really have an interest in. I check it out just because I like entertainment and they bothered to recommend it, lol.

To me this makes sense - They trust your judgement enough to spend their own personal time on your recommendation. It also gives them additional conversational possibilities with you later on. Consuming your media implies they're interested in you(r interests) to some degree.

However I think it's a bit different between two possible scenarios here: You recommended some sort of media, or you actually created said media. I think there's a big difference there.
