Asking too many questions, interview-style conversation wil most likely make the guy a chaser.

First off, the issue is not that it makes you "a chaser." The issue is that "interview mode" questions show a lack of ability to pay attention and actually listen to what she's saying. Makes it seem like she might as well not be talking.

__Examples__

You ask her where she's from. She says she's from City XYZ. You're like, cool I like that city. And you move on to an unrelated question.
Versus you ask her where she's from, she tells you, and then you follow-up on it, asking what it was like growing up there, what it's been like moving to another city if it's a different one, etc. You stay on topic and dig deeper. Into motivations, emotions, etc. How does she feel about something, why did she do something, etc.

So the answer is:

Actively listen. You should not be planning what you'll say, while she's talking. Focus on taking it all in.
Follow-up using what she just said. Get at motivations, emotions, and character traits.

Wrong mindset, really. She will literally give you all the material you need if you listen. And every conversation will be different, so trying to memorize other conversations won't really be so helpful.

Depends on what is your intention: keep her saying something or having a nice conversation. If is the second, i think it's just listen to what is she saying and using it to talk about something interesting for both. You dont even need to rationalize towards it, like when you are talking to a friend. But if you are not listening and are just trying to figure out what ask next while she is giving you all the clues you need, you would have a bad time.

The rule of thumb in conversation is trying to get people to talk about themselves. You want your questions to trigger them to tell a story or go off on a long tangent rather than asking questions that are likely to get short responses.

When you feel like you've struck out a few times and the questions are starting make it feel like an interview, switch to telling stories about yourself. As you tell your stories ask small questions which gives her the opportunity to jump in but don't stop your story. Your stories might remind her of something, or your little questions might finally pull her in. If she goes off on a story, let her hijack the conversation and instead of resuming your story, start asking questions to keep her going on hers.

questions are not necesarily bad or make you chase. It depends on how you frame them and how you express them. Julien from RSD goes into this in Pimp. Asking questions in a needy way makes you look needy.

The thing is you can basically ask a question and break rapport at the same time with your voice or with your body. You can ask rethoric questions. You can scream or whisper a question. You can force a reaction with a question. You can assume something about her with a question. You can ask her something really silly and make her laugh, or you can make her blush by asking something sexual out of the blue.

Bottom line, the problem is not asking questions but HOW you ask questions and WHAT KIND of questions are you asking.
