You had nothing to say to the guy but you found a way of initiating conversation with him. What's the difference between this and 'just initiating conversation' with a girl?

I agree with Frosty. You just met the guy, he won't mind if you have a word with the girl and the fact that you were starting up a conversation with him would actually make him warm about you approaching her (possibly rooting in your favor compared to watching a random stranger approach her and hoping it goes horribly)

If you can't think of anything to say, I by default ask what she knows about the club- how late it's open till, if it usually fills up more, anything. Asking for a light isn't a bad idea at all but if you run out of things to say I usually ask questions about the environment. I do the same with daygame and with other places I might game at. But that's usually when I can't think of anything else to say.

Just something to think about- how did you open the guy? Did you ask him a question at all? Have an opener for him? While you may have felt completely comfortable talking with the guy, try to apply those comfortable feelings when you talk to other women.

If I’m hanging out with a dude I just met, I’d give him the eyes, then lead his gaze toward her direction. If he was a true amigo, he’d completely understand the situation if this damsel was as fine as you are saying she was. If this dude was someone that’d get upset over the situation, he was not a true amigo.
I personally like to enjoy nicotine. When I’m out reveling in public, I’ve usually got my little vape and a pack of cigs/light on me. I’d ask her what she’s smoking and if she’d be down to trade a cig. If I didn’t have any on me, I’d ask her for a cig, but that’s less than ideal, since it puts you in a position of perceived neediness. If you don’t personally partake in the cancer ritual, I’d say it’s strange approaching someone who’s in the middle of taking a drag. So wait till she’s done. Find her later inside the bar.

Go and open her directly, just introduce yourself if it goes nicely talk to her for a min or two then bring her to the guy use him as social proof and then just isolate her or just don't bring her to him. You don't owe anything to a random dude you've met.

I am against asking for a light or a smoke because it's bullshit the girl knows you are talking to her because she is hot and you know it too. I see guys (good ass looking dudes too) doing it all the time and 9/10 the girls just think they lack balls. So just say your name or just compliment her on her look or outfit.

Imo you should've just excused yourself and tell the guy it was nice meeting him. Go up to the girl and ask her how her night is going, and introduce yourself after.
