You don't need any further readings, Mark Manson covered this in practically all of 'Models'.

In order to develop an emotional connection you have to be willing to open yourself up and making yourself emotionally vulnerable. This includes be open to giving out personal stories and letting your opinion and truths be heard.
Know, be open, and talk about your passions, hobbies, dreams, ambitions, life goals, best/worst things, childhood, family, life. Be willing to share any part of yourself to anyone at anytime. Nothing to lose.
If you want to learn on building vulnerability, look at women. They communicate more through feelings and emotions, practice conversing that way (speaking through character traits, motivations, emotions/feelings) rather than what we guys do. Whatever the story is, open up about it and challenge yourself to go one level deeper.
Use acronym FIPPLEW, in your everyday talk. In other words, start by using these words more often Feelings, Intimate/Intense, Pleasure, Passion, Love, Emotion, and Warm casually. You can add in your own.

Remember: "Humans are attracted to each other’s rough edges. Show your rough edges"

You should not be trying to develop an emotional connection by reading a book. You should be out developing it with interpersonal interactions with human beings. This is why we have relationships with women, so we can explore what we need from a relationship, and how our emotional connection is expressed to other people.

What drives me when I 'go deep' in a conversation with a girl is curiosity. I try to form a complete picture of who she is in my mind. What kind of person is she? What is her history? What motivates her in life? What is she thinking and feeling?

What we tend to do automatically is that we form a rough picture in our minds based on assumptions and stereotypes, and then we mistake that rough made-up picture for who she actually is. Throw those assumptions out the window, accept that you don't know who she is and what drives her, and find out!

You will find yourself a lot more 'why'-type of questions. And any statement becomes a springboard for countless interesting questions.

Also be aware that you can only understand another person's feelings as deeply as you understand your own feelings. If you are unaware or scared of your own emotions, you won't delve into other people's emotions.

I studied psychology in university and I did courses on interviewing, coaching, conversational skills, etc. In those courses, you would take the role of interviewer, interviewee and observer (for example). Men in particular would often miss easy follow-up questions to delve deeper into emotional issues. But the fascinating thing is that these men would say, after the interview, that they simply ran out of things to ask. In the observer role, it was PAINFULLY obvious that he could ask about an emotion, but in the heat of the moment, a man not fully in touch with his emotions would be completely blind to this!
