It's possible you didn't make the date exciting enough from the get go or were too needy in the interim by texting after the date was set.

For example, setting the date should get her excited and imagining having fun with you. "how do you feel about hot chocolate and people watching at coffee shops?" "you definitely seem like the competitive type... How's your pool and dart skills?"

And then when it's time to set the date...

"are you free at 4pm on Wednesday?" be specific with your time. Rather than asking when she's free, be assertive. If she isn't free and says, "no I have class until 6 how about then?", that's gold. She is obviously into you enough to make time for you and she's committing herself to the time because SHE essentially set up the date by picking the time.

Then say okay see you then! Then don't text. Let it sink in for her and get her excited about the meetup. The next text should be the day of or a day in advance if the date was more than a few days away. Hit her with something funny related to the meetup. Rather than a logistical question, hey we still on for 6? Say, "I've been craving hot chocolate all day. Thanks for making me wait 2 extra hours" or something sarcastic/funny to get her excited and ready for the meetup.

Wow something just happened now.

I met a new girl in my pool league and we actually made a quick date on the spot to get dinner afterwards. We spent a good 2 hours hanging out and enjoying the conversation. She mentioned to me at the end that she just got out of a relationship 3 months ago. I made a plan with her to play pool together this Saturday. We didn’t make out or anything - the closest thing was just locking arms while walking across the street.

I texted her today and asked her if she was still free to play Saturday. Then I got a reply back saying that the last time we hung out it felt too much like a date and she just wants to focus on making new friends 😒

Did I fuck something up with the way I hung out with her ? Or is she just worried about getting into a relationship again so soon?

Sounds like you're just trying to manipulate her or trick her into liking you even though she's already made it clear she's not ready. The first joke might be cute and funny but if you persist she might stop talking to you altogether.

If you really like her and want to have a chance, you gotta give her space. Guys think it's beta to not pursue a girl or assume she's playing hard to get but this isn't the movies, and she's made it pretty clear she doesn't wanna date. Even if worst case scenario she's playing hard to get and is fucking with you, do you really want to be in a relationship with this girl anyway? Assume what she's saying is truth and give her time and maybe she'll come back if she sees you're an understanding guy.

Wait a few weeks and hit her up again if she doesn't reach out. If she does reach out you should make it clear it's a date and not a friend hangout session.
