Always state why you are there, what do you want, and the reason.

Don’t be fake with the “direction” stuff, and don’t just be like “i wanted to say hi” without giving an explanation as to why you want to say hi to her specifically.

Imo indirect openers like the directions ones are good for breaking through your approach anxiety you get as a beginner, but once you get some approaches done it's best to be more direct. Just give them a direct compliment. "I was heading to do (xyz) in 5 minutes, but I saw you and I really like your (insert article of clothing or something else about them not related to physical appearance), and wanted to meet you. I'm (your name)" is a good starting spot. You express that you're interested in her, but also that you're in a bit of a hurry and won't trap her in an hour-long conversation.

Now situational openers are really the best, but it's kind of rare you'll find an opportunity to use them. A situational opener is when you comment on something in your shared environment and start the convo that way. Just make you eventually express intent after starting out this way. An example would be your sitting next to a girl in the library, and she yawns really loudly, and you ask her "(studying/the semester) exhausting you?" Or being at a concert and asking the girl next to you what her favorite album by the band is. These have the benefit of seeming more organic. But in general they do have to be pretty organic. There has to be something in the environment you can naturally comment on without it seeming weird/confusing her. This type of opener doesn't work when you're just walking around the streets for hours doing a high volume of approaches. There's almost never a natural reason to talk to someone walking past you on the street, so you need to just be direct and honest with your approach.
