If she compliments you, respond with something positive (pull). If you want to give her a compliment, it should be in response to something positive she does for you.

Do not fall into the trap of thinking that only compliments are positive things. If she complies with what you want, that's positive. You can respond by leader her to the next level in the interaction and that's also a positive thing.

"You're so sweet" doesn't require a direct response, but if you feel you must directly respond, try "thank you..." and keep talking about the next thing you want to say.

Edit: body language... when you're being positive, give positive body language. Don't overdo it, but a playful smile goes a long way. Stand confidently.

I (33f) don’t often receive compliments well because in that moment my split second assumption is that the person is saying it to manipulate me.

One man heard me brush the ‘your eyes are…’ away and he stepped a tiny bit closer (making him seem taller and making me look up at him a slightly more) and held my gaze. He looked so confused, was slightly frowning and gently said “you need to believe me” while staring into what felt like my actual soul. I would’ve probably ripped my heart out and handed it to him on a plate in that moment. We stayed FWB for a long time and he and his lucky wife are still my friends now.

The difficult task is being able to follow up with a joke to release tension after a compliment.

The true mastery of flirting is knowing how to compliment (pull) and then joke afterwards (push) to keep people guessing if you're flirting with them or not. It keeps makes people overthink your actions but also stops things from getting over the top too, (falling into the all too dangerous creepy vibe).
