My friends have the shitty, AFC view that rejection is some awful, awful thing to be avoided at all costs. As a result, whenever I try to pick up when we're out, I get anything from snickers to getting straight-up made fun of. I understand that they're trying to validate their own insecurity, but it still kind of fucks with me and as a result I'm a lot more hesitant to approach when I'm with friends. Hell, I've even had some of them "wingman" for me and ending up telling jokes about how shitty I was afterwards. Even if they don't make fun of be overtly, the fact that I know I'm being watched by a bunch of vultures kind of fucks with my inner game.

How should I respond to this? How normal are these kinds of reactions? Is this something I should expect or are my friends just naturally kind of shitty? Do you guys have any tips for dealing with this kind of shit?

EDIT: Before anyone asks, outside of social situations, these guys are fucking awesome. We're all pretty introverted and shy and I guess it hurts their collective egos to see someone attempting to break out of that.
