It's totally worth it if the photographer is actually good, but just being expensive does not make him good. Many professional photographers take your money just for using high-end equipment, but pay not enought attention to the details. You need someone who takes the time and is able to emphasize your strength and conceal your weaknesses, both in terms of face/body and personality. And it's an absolute must to tell him that you take this photos to use it for dating apps so he knows what you are aiming for.

Yes it’s worth it. I’m a well above average looking male and never get matches on dating apps because I haven’t bothered to get good photos done and instead find random photos that are “passable”
If you want to have success on dating apps good photos are a must. Find a few solid outfits and spend some time with a photographer

Bro get those photos, it will change your dating life.

I know, my issue is my body is still a bit out of shape. Face is the draw for me. I know that body isn’t as huge of a deal but I’m going to do a nice cut after having spent most of the last year improving muscular strength and then invest rather than getting them done now only to have them done again because my body changed.

They don't need to be professional photos, just good ones. Not sure how out of shape you are, but you can hide it with clothes for now if it's not that bad. Once your body is good, just take some beach/pool pics to add to your profile too.

It’s not terrible, it’s below the range of being a major concern but my genetics build up fat in an unflattering way around my chest/stomach

I’m average looking and just use regular photos that me and my friends take on our photos and get a decent amount of matches and dates from dating apps (maybe 20-30 matches a month). There’s got to be something else that’s the deciding factor man. I think professional photographers for dating apps are a waste of money. I’m legit not a “top 5%” guy or anything either - shit, i’m on dating apps because I struggle to date without them, but if I’m getting matches and you’re not then I think photos iasnt the factor

It has to be photos because I get tons of looks in public and none of my photos are particularly good. I also don’t have many photos with friends which women view as a big plus.

I don’t have many photos with friends
Yeah, okay, so I think the issue isn’t then whether the photos are professional, but the subject and content of these photos is the real issue.
My photos are straight up just from my iPhone 7 camera. But the quality of the photos are good. I have 7 photos I use at the moment and they are as follows; 1. Me and my friend laughing in a bar. 2. Me and my friend in an art museum. 3. Photo of me sitting in my car. 4. Photo of me in a historic city in Spain. 5. Photo of me in a suit at my friends wedding. 6. Photo of me kick-boxing. 7. Selfie of me holding a book.
A professional photographer isn’t needed for any of these. All of them were taken by me or a friend and my phone camera is iPhone 7 lol.
You don’t need a pro photographer but you need to make sure your photos are actually good and express that you are someone they’d like to spend time with.
Save yourself the money you’d spend on a photographer!

You’re correct, it’s all about the content of the photos. You can get good quality photos from your friends or from a photographer. People earn money and choose how they want to use it and some people prefer to have professional photos while others choose to have photos from simpler situations. You’re always welcome to choose what you want in a situation and other people’s advice is always optional.

Of course, but OP asked if it was worth spending money on a photographer and I simply expressed no. Obviously, he’s free to choose, but he asked.

I’m not saying you can’t, but I can say that, if it’s only for dating apps, don’t. Don’t get me wrong, I used to have an old professional pic of me pretending to perform (I’m a comedian) on my Tinder/Hinge accounts, but the rest of them were casual shots taken by me/my friends “in the wild” or “professional” selfies.
Why the former? It shows who you really are and gives your potential partner an idea as to what you’re like off of these apps. On my Hinge, I have a video of me and some of the boys doing a can can dance at a bar while the DJ played country music. It’s silly, care-free, and a decent representation of who I am.
What I mean by the latter is, if you have an iPhone, use the front facing camera in portrait mode (natural light setting), hold on your face for it to lock, and drag the sun icon down half an inch. Do this in a lit room/outside on a sunny day while turning your head a bit and gazing off into the distance with a neutral/focused expression and it looks awesome. I’ve used one of my “pro” selfies on Hinge and I’ve had an increase in likes on that photo (and I wouldn’t deem myself to be an attractive guy, either!)

I had a good experience with Shoott-- they essentially organize multi-person photoshoots on the same day in a public place (like a park or interesting landmark). You show up and shoot during your time slot, then receive a digital proof gallery where you can purchase individual shots for $25 each.
They're available in a lot of major cities. If you want use my referral code, feel free to DM me-- otherwise you can check them out at shoott.com.

Unless you’re extraordinarily good-looking, your chances on dating apps are close to zero without the help of a professional photographer or at least a friend who actually knows how to take good pictures

Don't use dating Apps. Approach women in real life

Look through my post history, I wrote a post explaining exactly how to build a winning dating app profile.

I find more than one “professional” photo on a profile to be a bit weird. If there’s one that looks like a professional headshot and is flattering, that’s cool. More than that and it’s a bit of a turn off.

You’re going to spend $200 on photos for a system that is geared to favor women in the dating world?

Photographer is definitely worth it. Have 2-3 outfits ready. I know people locally but you can try going on Instagram and typing “ [name of your city] photographer” in the search, and go thru some profiles pick the ones you like and DM them asking if they do lifestyle photography. To be honest, I wouldn’t even download the apps without having the pictures ready first.

Anything more than one professional looking photo will turn me off of a profile. It makes a guy look high maintenance to me. Not my vibe.
[–]mb2493 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not sure if a professional photographer is the way to go. The most important aspect of dating photos is that they are authentic. They should show your personality, photos that reveal something about yourself. You need photos of you in vacation, with your friends, of you doing hobbies you enjoy, you with your pet, etc. You have to show that you are an interesting, social guy who is not a serial killer. This is not achieved through bland photos in a photo studio. You can maybe use one of those pictures as your portrait photo but unless the photographer follows you around all day and takes multiple photos at different locations (you also need variety) its not gonna help you.
