I once had a friend who's really good looking but I knew nothing about women and was not self confident at all. Conversely I don't get the time of day.
He got so much woman coming up to him. It got so crazy that when I was with him I would tell him about all these things women did to signal to him. Imagine a guy that doesn't get any woman knowing more about "the game" then a guy who gets all of them.
It's definitely a real thing. The vast majority of women will do 180° if the guy is good looking compared to if he's not.
I've always hated the "just be confident" advice that gets thrown around here often. That advice shifts the onus of blame onto the man, and not the unrealistic physical standards that men have to adhere to in modern society.
Women, and good looking men, like to say that confidence is sexy. No, being sexy is sexy. It just happens that sexy people tend to be confident.

Yeah because most guys don’t want to believe that they are at fault for their failure with women, it feels much better to blame something out of their own control. In today’s day and age people don’t want to work hard or take responsibility for their actions and people are getting lazier by the day.
