top pushing for the date, send a few texts irrelevant to this topic and then bring up a date next week?
This opition is a lot better, because it's less needy. Keep the communication til next week at a bare minimum.

Absolutely not. You look too needy if you say “when will you know you are free?”
The most she will say is “i‘ll let you know” which isn’t really specific and you’ll feel even more dumb for asking.
Don’t ever look so eager, never let her feel that you are far more interested in hanging out with her than she is with you, which is what asking that question does.
Just let her reach out to you whenever she wants to, don’t insist. Insisting pushes women away.
You know she has exams lectures works and everything, so just assume that she can’t make time for you.
Don’t assume she should make time for you, just accept that she doesn’t want to for now.
You say you are free on friday, that’s it simple as that, she knows you are free, and if she wants to join she will let you know and if she doesn’t she will just not text you.
Don’t make your life revolve around her, just make plan B with other friends or girls on friday.
Don’t try to push her or put pressure on her.

Don't push for anything.. not even a 'how are you' text... she seems genuinely busy so wait it out.. when she's ready to have fun again, she'll come to you.

She said she’d let you know so stop pushing. I’d try again once more next week if she doesn’t text you her availability or is just too busy. I remember exam time in college and it was stressful so personally the last thing I’d want is someone on my back. That’s me though.
