I normally make an attempt to go for phone numbers instead of social media. Also, you might want to try asking for the date before going for contact info. Ask her nonchalantly if she'd like to continue your interesting/enticing conversation over a drink/coffee/bite to eat sometime. And if she agrees then go for the contact info (phone number preferred). That way, you already have something to talk over text i.e. the impending date, and you can get her schedule for it. Instead of beating around the bush.

But great job man!! You are right, sometimes doubt comes from outside influence and sometimes from within. Good on you to maintain your self belief and a great show of balls to ask her out in front of everyone else!!

Your “friend” was jealous. Sorry but often people see and he’s things they want do they hose down your experience. You can overlook-but frankly-he was wrong-your approach was spot on-so trust your gut and be yourself. Getting a lull in a conversation is often inevitable. The way you did it-giving her unneedy space-she was glad you asked later. Your friend sounds needy and jealous. Say nothing but be wary.
