I believe they picked up on this change in my composure caus they started teasing me with my outfit. Like 'You planning on scoring with the ladies?' in a condescending way and stuff like that.

They're either joking around as friends do or trying to tool you, or maybe both. Figure out which and respond appropriately: if they're just friends having a few cracks, have a few cracks back: "Didn't realize it was just poor people here today, sorry bro, didn't mean to make you look bad."

If they're trying to tool you, you gotta be more aggressive. Read up on how to deal with AMOG's instead of letting them have a real impact on your life. Google AMOG and you'll get stuff.

Anyway, I quickly 'dressed down' and recovered my momentum.

Wrong move. You let them choose what outfit you wear, how ridiculous. "A guy made fun of me for something stupid so I changed my life to appease him." C'mon son.

PS: "You trying to get laid?" is a classic AMOG line. It hurts you because it makes you look needy for sex (thus low value; high value guys don't go around hoping to get laid) and it makes any woman that talks to you look slutty ("omg she's talking to that horny guy!") thus triggering ASD and making them avoid any approval or contact with you.

tl;dr Your question is essentially "Can standing out form the crowd - even in a "good" way - be bad because it attracts unwanted challenges from other men?" The answer is no - you have to learn how to handle those challenges, and if you can they make you look BETTER than if you didn't.

That's how I'm always dressed. Jeans, usually, (hi /r/rawdenim) but sometimes pants.

All I ever get is compliments.

Only if it affects you as a person. An outfit is only as good as the mentality of the person in it. If it doesn't bother you and affect you, it really shouldn't be a problem at all.

If you over dress and people tease you about it, go with the flow, ACCEPT their teasing. Say yes, I'm here to get with the ladies, watch out for me! Then go talk to the ladies, they will love it and soon you will realize that it was no big deal and in fact now you will be comfortable dressing different more often.

I mean, there's a time and place for anything. You need to use you own judgement. Like, you probably won't find me in a white tuxedo if I'm heading to a house party in the middle of the hood.

It's not about the outfit itself. It's your intentions with the outfit. Trying to draw state from your clothing or you're trying too hard to DHV via your outfit? Too tryhard. Just expressing yourself? That's fine.

You got challenged and you backed down. In general when it comes to dressing, males often feel offended when another male puts in more effort in the way he dresses/stands out/goes on the risqué side when it comes to dressing, probably due to insecurity. Don't be afraid to stand out.

I used to think it was counter productive, but it really depends on how you respond to their comments. If you're confident, their comments shouldnt matter. A great response to them talking to you like that is to agree and amplify. If someone says that to me I turn it into and inside joke.

You should dress however you want, and don't let what other people think effect you too much. Confidence is most important.

Dressing up can be a great conversation starter too. You're different than others at the party and you stand out. Use that to your advantage. American culture revolves around being 'unique'.

One more thing to add, in the business world you want to dress up. A good rule of thumb is to dress for the position you want, not the position you have. You want to be the CEO? start dressing like a CEO and not like the rest of your coworkers.

I've found that yes, it can, because it gives off the signal that you care about the night/date a lot if you dress up too much. I experimented with around 8 dates with this, and found a better response if I dress well but casually versus formally.
