Well the thing is, if you're interested in someone and it's not clear that they like you already (because they've told you, or they initiate romantic things) then I think you just need to tell them. If you're equally into each other and both nervous then maybe these things will help and he'll ease up a bit. If he doesn't react to intimacy like that then maybe he doesn't like you in the same way.

I recently told someone I like that I like them, having not tried to be intimate with them at all, and I'm really glad I did it. It's a progression even if they don't like you.

If you feel like you want to be intimate to show them you like them, but also persuade them to like you in that way, I don't think that's the right way. Physical contact can make people uncomfortable from the wrong people. I'd go with telling them once you've tried little things and they haven't reacted in the same way, rather than turning up the touching.

Ha! Well I'm not sure that's a good idea. It seems like what you really should just tell him how you feel. Do you really fear telling him because it's taboo or because you're scared he'll move away from you as a friend? Someone who's into you will either decide to be with you instead of his girlfriend, or if he's not he'll want to remain your friend but apologise and hope it doesn't get awkward. If you think he'll just stop being friends with you then maybe you should question how close you are.

To be honest, it's probably not a good way to start a relationship with someone, if that's what you want. I'd be surprised if you could trust someone if you'd began that way. Given his reactions now I'd be surprised if you'd trust him - he shouldn't be reacting as if he's interested if he has a girlfriend. I used to do this, when I was with my partner, to people I met and got on with. I didn't want it to go anywhere, and it could've just been friendly but it tormented my boyfriend and was bad because of the other person's intentions.

Also, it'll be upsetting for the girlfriend to someone else to be trying to be with him. She won't be hurt if you like her boyfriend, but she will be if you just try to sneak in there.

I really hope that it goes well though and you just tell him and he says 'yeah, I like you too' and deal with it from there, and it doesn't get messy or upsetting. Good luck.
