I visited my counselor last week and I was complaining about how I gat anxious socially sometimes. I told her a story about how I went to a coffee shop to study and I saw a cute girl then froze. Completely still.....my mind racing in a hundred different directions...”what do I say?” “she looks busy?” “what if she thinks I’m a creep?” “what if I’m not enough?” “she’s sorta tall...what if I’m too short?”

And of course paralyzed by fear, I don’t approach.

Long story short, my counselor told me to stop overanalyzing and stop worrying about what might happen. Don’t think....do. It’s pretty simple advice but it freed my mind. I went out this weekend and when I started to overthink I took a deep breath and focused on doing. Whether having fun or chatting up the strangers around me I ended up having an amazing time by simply doing and not thinking. This is still tricky for me but I find that now I make more approaches and I give myself more opportunities.
