Just do it. You’ve got to break your ego by getting rejected once or twice hard and realise it’s no big deal. Go approach.

Baby steps is the key. Start by challenging yourself one bit at a time. Fear to go out alone? Start going out alone! Fear to approach? Start with something simpler: asking for directions, current time... little things that in 99% of cases won’t end in a rejection (the worst thing that could happen is someone replying “Sorry, I don’t know”). Then approach with something more elaborated (a sincere compliment, when truly sincere, is almost never rejected).

Jumping out completely from your comfort zone is not the best approach to improve. It’s like going to gym: you don’t start lifting 100kg the first time, when your muscles aren’t ready/trained for that. You would waste a lot of energy, risk to damage your body, without getting any positive results at all. But if you start with 20kg you’ll do it with almost no effort and you’ll start to build confidence about your body lifting weights. If you’ll train enough and gradually increment the difficulty, soon or later you’ll be able to lift 200kg.

The same goes with confidence and approaches.

I suggest to read “Models” from Mark Manson, that book mostly talks about this (and many other related concepts).

I find if I go out alone the fear of looking like a creep that just stands there by himself out ways the fear of being rejected
