Look, I don't know your story at all but I'll leave this here since your situation is as common as there are people and you can do as you please.

I know you wanna get back together with her but just remember why you guys broke up.

If you are the one who initiated it remember why you did it; the reason will show itself again in the future. Guaranteed.

If she is the one who broke up with you, you should not try to get back with her. She is special to you for many reasons I'm sure and one of them is because you spent 3 1/2 years together. That's a lot of time and it definitely leaves its mark. That said, I'm definitely in the group of people who will tell you to move forward and go live your life without her. You wanna help her? fine, do it, even if I don't think you should; she just needs your help while you are giving it to her partly because you want to get back with her.

That said, if you are so hell bent on getting back with her, the procedure to do so is the same as if you didn't want to get back with her and not give a fuck, live your life and experience other people. The trick is to move on, and move on FOR REAL. If and only if in the future she really wants to get back with you, you'll then be able to evaluate if you really want her and if the amazing life that you've built and the awesome identity you took for yourself is worth risking for a person of the past (who may have changed for the better, or not).

I've been in your shoes bro. And may be all this doesn't apply to your situation, in that case never mind but it mostly likely does. Trust me when I say that the best that you can experience in life has yet to come. Good things happened and your brain longs for them as it probably thinks the only way to replicate it is to get back what it lost. This couldn't be further from the truth; as someone who helped me a lot told me and I'm paraphrasing: there is a vibrant future ahead of you if you stay in a good direction and don't give up on yourself.
