In one video he sounds as if he's joking, while he sounds serious in the other one. If all my jokes were taken seriously I'm sure I wouldn't be liked by anyone.

It basically completely reverses the meaning of what he's trying to say in some cases. I don't really think this is a fair comparison, because in the down beat video he's really telling jokes, but instead he sounds like he's very serious.

The Halo Effect is real though - with much better research than this to support it.

What the video discusses is true, even though the experiment here is bad.

While tone and body language are very important, there's two things you should keep in mind:

What you say still does matter. There are some people who will notice that tone, body language, confidence, etc matter, and then conclude they are the only things that matter (omgz! Mark Manson's friend said 'Can I pee in your butt!!!!'). Both style and substance matter. The style is there to get her interested in the substance, just like a restaurant with great decor and good presentation makes you want to try the food -- but the food still has to be good or you won't come back.

The second thing is that the style/substance balance changes over time. In your opener it's probably 80-90% style, but later on substance takes on a much larger role. If all you focus on is delivery and presentation, you'd better only be aiming for pulling girls that night. If you want a D2, you'll need a good balance of style and substance.

Poor scientific study. The "good" speech was shown on a bed, the "bad" speech was shown at a table.

The women knew they were being recorded, so they really played into the personality. People act as we expect them to.

I have four problems with this video and its attempt to be scientific.

(1) The happy video was well-lit and bright, while the second was dull and gloomily lit. While the actor did a good job, a good experiment removes all outside sources of error, and this could easily affect the results.

(2) The girls were not watching in the same environment. When you're comfortable, you'll perceive things better. One group of girls was on a bed, while one group was in a dining room. These might also skew the results.

(3) The ladies who were attempting to lead the discussion. They did not ask the same questions and they asked leading questions which elicit a certain type of response. Anyone who designs a survey knows that the wording of a question has a huge impact on the response.

(4) Small sample size. Since it's a TV show, not a big deal I suppose.

While I'm certain that tone matters when you're speaking to people, this video does a poor job of showing that.

Are there any resources on the internet that helps with body language, tonality and facial expressions. Something interactive like a video or something, I'm like a fucking robot. Although I'm not a bad looking guy, my facial expressions, body language and tonality can be off putting
