I'm stuck in a rut with where I invite women to a first date. I'm sick of the bar scene, but I feel like it's the only acceptable place to meet someone new.

Wait, you want a place to meet new people? Or a place for first dates with the people you've met?

Where do you invite people to go on a first date?

In addition to what SafeForW0rk said, there's hiking, parks, grabbing food (snacks or a meal), drinks (coffee, alcoholic, whatever), partner dance classes. Really it depends. What are you into? And what is she into? Look for intersections and suggest something.

And overall, places with intimate lighting and privacy, are good.

I second the notion that movies are terrible. Except for the follow up date option of movies at your place or hers. That option rules. Movies in the theater sucks balls for getting to know someone or for making moves.

I did two first dates on my jetski and was told they never had a first date like that before and was a lot of fun.

I wouldn't do movies though, you won't be able to talk and get to know each other.

If you live in a big city, ice cream and take her to the top of a building somewhere dt. Absolutely perfect date everytime

Research venues in the city in which you live..since you are the one who knows it. Have a plan for places yo can bounce to if things go well. Start inexpensive and not time consuming for first venue.

Here in DC, we have museums, zoos, an arboretum, coffeehouses, restaurants, farmer's markets, Eastern Market (flea/craft market), etc.

Yesterday I took a first date to a flagship farmer's market, and since things went well, I took her to an inexpensive brunch and then -you need to understand the "crunchy granola" neighborhood we were located in- to a food coop where we got a small chocolate chess pie that was produced by a local vendor that I personally know and sat outside on a gorgeous day eating it at picnic tables in front. Along the way, we say there was a yard sale a block off and she showed interest, so we checked it out too. We were actually heading to a cheesecake cafe instead of the coop, but as we spoke...I created the bounce plan so it would work for both of us.
