Long time lurker, first time caller. No throwaway, and feel free to ask for more details, Alot happens in three dates and I didnt want to submit an wall of text that would go mostly unread.
TL:DR Went on three dates, then she called it off
1st date I matched with a girl on tinder, we met in a coffee shop and stayed talking until they told us they had closed 1/2 an hour ago. We had tons in common and kept talking while we walked through a nearby park. I did not escalate at all on the first date, probably my first mistake since she seemed to like me.
2nd Date we went Canoeing, not great for physical contact but we kept talking and had a really good time. Me and this girl were weirdly similar, from activities to certain ways to make a type of sandwich. After the canoe we went to a tiny dock and laid on a blanket, watched the sunset. I kissed her and she even said that I had great timing in doing so. I drove her home and kissed her more, she seemed ecstatic for another date. In an hour I got a text regarding how much fun she had on the date.
Later in the week I was texting her, she sent me a picture of a Klondike bar with blood on it, with the caption "what would you do". Went into something about where are we hiding the body. She asked if my trunk was big enough for a body. I replied that "it's big enough for two", the most murdery pickup line ever. She responded really well and seemed into me and was excited for out date tomorrow.
3rd date I took her to an arcade, we had a good time and I was joking around and having a lot of fun, especially in the racing games. After the arcade we grabbed food, and walked around down town hand in hand. When I got to her house we made out a bit and it sounded like a 4th date was a given! I did notice I didn't get a text after the date like before but I thought nothing of it at the time. That weekend I asked her to a drive in, she said she had standing plans with a future roommate, then I asked her out for later in the week and she replied with a long message along these paraphrased lines.
"Don't take this the wrong way but I don't see us going anywhere romantically. You're a great guy, etc. etc."
I replied asking what had changed, then another long message along these lines.
"You really did nothing wrong! Everything was great, but opposite attract and when we were out it felt more like I was out with my best friend, and I don't think I can develop romantic feeling for you, I have this problem somewhat often"
Then I replied That I can't blame her for the way she feels and that it was fun while it lasted.
I can understand her point of view I suppose but what I don't get is that it was apparent we were really similar from the 1st date, so I'm not so sure that's really why. so I guess my questions would be What would be a good way of avoiding coming off as a friend, and What could I have done better, or differently. Thanks in advance!
TL:DR Went on three dates, then she called it off because we're too similar.
