Hey all, first FR and while no #,k, or F closes I thought sharing the night might be good for some critique and some helpful reminders to beginners out there like me. Quick info: I'm 22, and a senior in college.
We start out going to the major college bar just off campus, me and three of my buddies. When get inside, and get comfortable for a few minutes. I screening the area for potential sets, when my buddy tells me we can meet his female friend (HB6) he used to work with. I say sure, and the two of us break off from the main group to go and find them.
Enter HB6, there with a few of her friends from high school. Introductions are had, and for the longest time it's just me, my mate, and HB6 talking, with all of her friend remaining silent or only conversing with each other. After a couple of minutes, my friend bails to rejoin the group, but I insist on staying for a few minutes.
HB7, one of HB6's friends is just stirring her drink with her straw and isn't even interacting with her high school friends. I touch her gentley on the shoulder and say "You look bored!" She looks at me lights right the fuck up. With a big smile she says "I'm sorry, it's just my neutral face. I'm actually having a lot of fun!" We chat for a little, kino is hard in the position I'm in, so I just rest my hand on hers. She then tells me she's from out of town goes to a Christian school, then I slam on the breaks. Listen, not that I don't like religious people, but Christian school can mean literally anything. If it was Catholic, I'd say to myself "Aww what the hell" but sometimes you just can't tell with those types of things.
I ask HB6 what the game plan is (she wants to show HB7 around), and she tells me she'll be going to a dance club next door (the only one in my shitty college town). I know we were planning on hitting her up later, so I said I'd see them there. This my big mistake of the night, I should have asked for their numbers right there. I wasn't thinking clearly, I felt like I couldn't pull the #'s suavely since it would be redundant as my buddy also had HB6 (I came up with a good line for this much too late Hey give me your number real fast, xxx is horrible at getting back to people; I'll make sure we get to meet up at the club.).
Here was plan for the rest of the night; rendezvous with HB6 and HB7, dance with HB7 to bring her out of her potential conservative shell, escalate, and bring her home. It did not go as planned.
I get back with my crew (I really left as a demonstration of social proof), and they are having a good time. We chat for a little get a couple more drinks. I try to get the group to move to the club, but my mates start moaning about difficulty to find space at the club, and enjoying the bar for a little while. I'm all smiles, but after a while I make it known, that we're going now. At that point in time, they are too drunk and disorganized to go anywhere but home, and now I miffed. Determined not to waste the night I spend the rest of my night practicing approaches, not really gaming, but just friendly chats w/ kino (none of these were noteworthy so I refrain from mentioning them here).
Lesson learned: Don't let you social proof dictate what you want to do, I knew I missed a big opportunity with the HB7 and IOI's just because my social proof was being bitchy. In super crowded places like college bars, these decisions are always a gambit, if I leave without my crew I effectively lose my social proof for the night, it is beyond difficult to find someone once you leave them in these types of large bars/clubs. Anyway keep this in mind when you're having fun, but don't let social proof weigh you especially once you've built attraction like that.
