I started talking to a girl on OKCupid about a week ago and asked her out. We tentatively agreed to do something this weekend. Then, yesterday afternoon, I got in touch with her again and suggested for Friday. She was busy but suggested a willingness to change her plans. I said "Don't do that. How about tonight?" So we went out last night.

We met for drinks at a pub. I got there a bit early and charmed the hostess into letting us sit in a booth for drinks, even though booths were supposed to be for people getting food. (Problem with booth: No opportunity for physical contact.) The conversation was great, and she was in every way better than her profile indicated. She was a lot more interesting and engaging than I'd expected, and while her photos made her look like a 5 or 6, I'd say she's easily an 8. (Probably the second-hottest women I've been on a date with by looks alone, but if you count personality then she moves into first place.)

After about two hours, I suggested that we go somewhere else, so we moved to another bar. Unfortunately, it's another booth, so still no touching! She was throwing out very positive, I-like-you body language left and right, and she had to get up for work in five hours .... four hours ... then three hours. So, I think maybe she likes me, though some of it could have been the alcohol. We finally left at about closing time, and I walked her the mile back to her apartment.

Outside the apartment, we stood there and talked for a while. We discussed the possibility of getting together again Saturday, and she said it would depend on work schedule. Then I went in for the kiss, and it was the weirdest, awkwardest kiss I've ever experienced. Not the approach so much, I mean, but the kiss itself was off. It sounded like she thought it was her fault, but I think it was a collaborative effort. I'm not sure what happened, but I'm hoping we'll get to try that again.

(Postscript: I texted her this morning with a basic "Had a great time, looking forward to seeing you again." No response yet.)
