I got invited to a dorm party for a friend's birthday. So I knew before hand that she was the only one that I actually knew at the party. So I decided for some practice I was going to walk into that party and while at that party I was going to be as confident as I could, walk around like I owned the place.

So I get there and walk in, walk over to the friend who I knew. Wished her a happy birthday and talked for a bit. Got introduced to a couple of friends (kept my arm around my friend to try to demonstrate I'm a good friend and thus DHV), chatted with some new people, all while communicating that "I own the party" kind of confidence. Early on they all seemed to be really interested in what I had to say, big confidence boost.

So I see a HB7 (she was punk-rock chick, so I guess this scale could vary from 5 to 9 depending on how you feel about punk-rock chicks.) walk over, start talking, then just kept conversing, dancing and grinding.

I got there fairly late, so people were starting to leave, not long after the RA came around and told them to shut down the party. So people starting getting kicked out, the HB was a room mate so she was one of the people getting others to leave. I just stood around, trying to sub-communicate an "I know you want me to stay". This seemed to work fairly well as she seemed to give off hints that I should stay (walked up to me and put her arm around me, talked, etc, while others were leaving).

So room is nearly empty. It's just her and I by the door. We are arm in arm.

She nervously says "You're really cool but I can't do this" (I'm pretty sure she meant a SNL).

"That's all right, I understand." (Pull her in and give her a hug)

"Are you gay?"

I laughed a bit "No I'm not, why do I come off as gay."

"No, your just clean cut, hair, blah blah."

I say, "How about I get your number so we can go out sometime."

"Do you have your phone on you."

"Ya" Pull out phone, get her number.

So after I got her number I leaned in and kissed her for a bit. I asked her when would be a good time to call her or text her. She said to text her any time tomorrow. So we say our good byes, I turn to leave, turn back and give her another quick kiss, and then leave.

So even though I knew how important confidence is this was a personal experience as to how importance it really is.

Also the "Are you gay?" is kind of messing with my head. I'm guessing she just said it out of nervousness without really thinking but I would like to get /r/seduction 's opinion on it.

One more question, we live in the same building and she hinted she is just doing homework tomorrow. I know if I text her tomorrow, then asking her to come to my room to watch a movie that night would break the 24-hour notice rule, but since we live in the same building and she hinted she is free would this be a case where I could break the rule, I don't want to lose the feelings of attraction by waiting longer than necessary. I'd like people's opinions on this too.

TL;DR Confidence can easily make or break any interaction. I used it to K-close, get a number, and stay at a party while others got kicked out.
