I went in to the local REI to pick up some socks. This is a store that sells outdoor recreational gear for anyone that’s not familiar.

I walk in and say what’s up to the greeter. I make my way to the back towards the sock/shoe area. I stop to check out the shoes just for the heck of it and chat up a woman about what I’m looking for. As we’re talking I notice a cute girl, short tan brunette, enter through the back door. She passes us and says hi to the woman I’m talking to, so I smile at her and wave. She smiles back and keeps walking. I finish looking at shoes and pick out a few hiking socks.

I turn around and see a sick Patagonia bag. It’s perfect for traveling so I figure why not and decide I want it. I keep shopping around looking through clothes and gear that might be on sale. I throw the socks in the bag so I have a free hand to check out other items.

Eventually I get over shopping and work my way back to the front to check out. As I’m standing in line I look up and see the cute girl from before at one of the registers. We both make eye contact and I flash a friendly smile then look back down at the snacks in the check out line. I feel like she’s definitely approachable at this point. As the line gets shorter I notice the cute girl is still checking someone out and I wanted to talk to her so I let the couple behind me pass and I casually pickup a few snacks in line. I’m next in line again but this time the cute girls registers open and she calls me over.

I say “hey how’s it going”

She says “good! Love this bag! It matches your hat!”

I laugh “haha yeah I swear every time I’m in here I get something else I probably don’t need.”

She laughs with me and says “that’s how we keep you coming back.”

I laugh and tell her “if that’s what you wanted you just had to ask. It would save me a lot more money than buying everything in your store”

She says “then I wouldn’t be doing my job if I did that”

I say “I won’t tell anyone if you don’t”

She laughs and says “stop it. Ok what’s your rei phone #”

I give her my number and she cashes me out.

Then I remember the socks in the bag!

I tell her no way “I totally forgot I put a few socks to buy in the bag”

She says “omg I should have checked, you’re distracting me!”

I say “I knew I shouldn’t have worn this hat today”

She laughs and says “you’re dumb”

She scans my socks and asks for my rei phone number again

I give her my number and say “hey I’ve given you my number twice now and you haven’t even offered me yours..” then I slide my phone on the counter

She says “wow that was really smooth, I can’t even lie” and types in her number

I ask “what time are you off?”

She says “In about an hour”

I ask “wanna grab a drink with me after work? I’m going to (brewery) after this”

She says “yeah! I’m down I’ll text you when I’m out”

I say “cool! I’ll see you later” wave and walk out

She texts me an hour later and asks where to meet up. I offer to pick her up since I live down the road. She says “sounds good! I’m ready”

I drive back over and pick her up then we talk about her interests, she’s 25, and where she lives etc.

I didn’t realize the brewery closes early on weekdays so when we walk in one of the bartenders says hey just so you know we close in an hour.

I ask the girl I’m with if she would be down to just make a drink at my place since I only live 5 mins away. She says “sure let’s go”

So we go to my place and I make a tequila pineapple drink. We sit down on the couch and talk about how we both like outdoors/hiking. She asks about my gear so I go into my room to grab some stuff. One of the items was my puffy winter jacket I wear mountaineering. To make her laugh I take off my shirt and only wear the jacket.

She says “wow you have a nice body” then looks away and says “omg I’m such a girl”

I sit down next her again and say “wow you have nice lips” and jokingly say “omg I’m such a guy”

She rolls her eyes and as she’s staring at me I lift her chin up and go in for a kiss. We make out for a few minutes then I take her to my room to hook up. We chill for a bit but I tell her I work early tomorrow and we call it a night.

I drive her back to REI to her car and tell her it was quite the unexpected night but I’m glad we met and the brewery plans didn’t happen. She laughed and agreed.

What I learned:

You never know when you’ll meet a potential girl so always be ready. I did get ready and wore a nice outfit even though I wasn’t expecting to meet anyone so I had that going for me.

I think it was good that she saw me talking to the first woman because she noticed me right away and could tell I was outgoing and social.

If I didn’t leave the socks in the bag I don’t know if I would have closed this one. The line to get her number only came to me after she asked for mine again. So I could probably improve on that part of my game if I ever run into that scenario again.
