Hey everybody!

So, I've been a significant lurker for a while, and I thought I would share a field report, which illustrates some of the things I've found useful.

Last night, I worked late, and then went straight to my league night. Yep, bowling. A lot of people make fun of it, but I enjoy it, so it doesn't matter to me. Plus, it tends to be a great date with lots of kino. Afterwards, I jump on the train to head home, and there are only 2 other people on the train. I make a joke to this really cute girl as I get on, saying:

  • -Me: "I suppose it would be awkward if I sat right next to you", followed by a wink.
  • -Her reply: "Well, now I think it would be awkward if you didn't sit over here"

When I know absolutely nothing about a girl, I tend to say, "Tell me 2 interesting things". I find this to be great, and you always end up with something to talk about. Plus, they usually struggle, because they want to tell you something interesting about themselves, instead of just in general as the questions implies. I have a couple really cool tidbits about myself, so sometimes I have to start, and then I tease them about how easy the question is.

We talked for about 3 minutes (I was only going a couple stops), and I told her that she should give me her number, which she willingly did.

Fast forward to text once I get home. She had made a joke about her last name sounded like elephant, so I opened the text with a joke about that. Some other things I've found helpful while texting:

Robbing a bank. I use this pretty often in text, and girls tend to get into the role play.

  • -Me: "I'm free tomorrow after a work event. Let's do something fun. Maybe rob a bank"
  • -Her: "I'll bring the masks"
  • -Me: "Do you want the wheel or the guns"
  • -Her: "Wheels, always. You handle the guns"
  • -Me" (wasted Regulators reference) "Well, I'm handy with the steel, if you know what I mean. But you gotta earn your keep"

After she didn't pick up on the Regulators reference, I started giving her points. Girls tend to find this funny, and I usually carry this through to dates.

  • -Me: "-1"
  • -Me: "I gave you a golden reference, and you squandered it"
  • -Her: "What reference? Golden?"
  • -Me: "-2"
  • -Her: "Failure to inform participants score was being kept, -1"
  • -Me: "Making up rules, -3"

I tend to over exude confidence as a joke. I try to make it so cocky that it's just funny or corny. But, what is key here, is her response, which really brought home some of the things people say about AA.

  • -Me: "I must be either incredibly charming or good looking for you to so blatantly hit on me riding the train at midnight"
  • -Her: "I have a thing for someone confident enough to make conversation on public transportation"
  • -Me: "I suppose that evens out. I have a things for pretty women"
  • -Me: "So, if you know any..."

So, that's about it. To me, this was a mix of reassurances on things to do with both inner and outer game. Namely, don't be afraid to approach, to be yourself, and to have fun.
