This is a different style of field report than is often posted here, but I think it's still important and in complete alignment with what seddit it all about. In which I talk my way into a closed frat party.

My roommate and I were just kinda wandering around, looking for a party for our school's running club. In the process of trying to find this place on some randomass street that we had never heard of, we came into possession of a box of cheezits and a box of reeses puffs cereal. I'm not sure the term for these things, but they were something to draw interest. Also, as far as I'm concerned, they were a bargaining chip.

So we rolled up to this house where there was loud music and a group of people outside on the porch. We had no idea who they were, but figured we could get inside and check it out. As we walked up the steps, a GIANT dude stood in our way and stopped us. He kindly told us that it was a closed party and that we couldn't get in. He was standing in our way to the door, and then there was a semi-circle of people around to our left, with about a 4 guys and 3 girls.

Since I know that these guys liked these girls and wanted to make them happy, I turned my attention to them. The guy blocking my path gave me a response that I didn't like, so I didn't validate it. I learned that directly from you guys. I played it cool with the girls, just asking how they were and making brief smalltalk, getting names, making jokes, etc. Naturally, they asked for some cheezits and reeses puffs. Knowing full well that I was going to give the girls some cheezits to make them happy (because that is, presumably, the only reason the guys would let me in: that I could add value and make people – mainly girls – happy), I tried to bargain a little bit to get me and my roommate into the party. I wanted to remind them that I was going to make the girls happy but I also wanted something in return.

With everybody eating cheezits and reeses puffs, a new set of people showed up to the porch from the street. They were brothers of the frat that was hosting the party, and so they were instantly let in – but not before asking for some of my food. This corroborated the idea that I could add value to their party. Everyone was eating and happy now, so I started toward the door. The original guy who was blocking our way happily moved aside and said "Come on in, you guys are cool. Don't be douchebags."

Mission accomplished.

I feel that gaining rapport with guys or girls regardless or orientation is all flirting. Specifically, it's all the same KIND of flirting – kino (although I didn't use any in this), IOIs, attraction, connections, etc. I find much more success when dealing with people in this kind of situation than I do with closing with girls. So my question for you all is: how IS this different from closing with a girl? What parts are different?
