Something I have noticed recently is that people tend to have an auto-pilot mode when they are doing routine tasks. For example, a waitress or cashier may come take your order or check your items out without even paying attention to you. They give you the typical "Hi" "Hello, did you find everything okay?" "How's it going" "Bye" but the whole time you're never actually talking to that person. I think often times in picking up a girl you get this same response when approaching.

I have done some experimenting with this. Often times when you say something that breaks the average conversation format or something off-handed that person actually becomes engaged and that's when you see yourself having a real conversation. It's amazing how much different people will act when they are engaged. You become something new and interesting instead of being the old lady checking her groceries out.

I was looking for some feedback and opinions on this, would anyone agree? Has anyone come up with a good way to break though and have real conversations?
