Giving business cards vs getting numbers?

I did pick up a girl using my business card once. However I don't do that any more for two reasons:

a lot of girls want plausible deniability. They don't want to be the one to take action. They want to be able to say "it just happened, I'm not a slut". That's the reason most girls don't make the first move.
I have a nerdy job that is known for a relatively high pay, so I don't want to attract girls who are after a guy with money and don't want them thinking I'm a nerdy guy before having gone on a date with me.

Public speaking is cool however, so you might not face problem 2. Problem 1 will probably be the biggest hurdle. If you're still unsure, I would suggest just trying it out and see how well it works for you.

I never give out my business card. I ask for the girls number. It comes off as pretentious to me.

If you give out a card like that, one that shows off your achievements, it's a bit try-hard. Lots of guys do that. Go the other way - a simple card with just your email address on it. Then you will stand out.

If you are skilled at this, you can get girls to contact you. It's a real test of your game.

You can give them your number without giving your card. That's the coolest option. If she likes you - she will call.

Giving business card can come off as compensating and weak. It can be a turn-off.

However, in some situations it isn't:

Your encounter is such that you cannot really speak (due to rush, or other people around, she's a cashier and there's a long line behind you). You just slip her your card and give a wink, and that's it.
There's one badass approach, working well when she's in a situation she might reject you even if she likes you (e.g. with a bunch of friends, or with family). You call her, like "hey, excuse me" or whatever...and then tell her..."I think this is yours" - and hand her your card. Wink if possible:)
