This is probably not what you want to hear, but the most likely scenario here is that she doesn’t like you and there’s no coming back from that, at least on the short term. What you should do is move on and meet some other girl.

On another note, the best way to approach someone new in my experience is to ask something really simple of them. For example, if you have a class with them ask her to watch over your laptop while you get food or ask them for a pen. This simple favors will break the ice, let them know you are not a freak, and also place both of you in the same level. This will also make her unconsciously feel you are not trying to hit on her, and that way she will let her guard down the next time you talk to her.

Yeah. the book I got was "History of My Life". It was published in 2007, with an introduction by John Julius Norwich, and published by Everyman's Library.

A caveat: this is not a quick read. It's 1,100 pages and more like a history of 18th-century Europe and how he threaded his way through it. It took me a year but I was advised by a prof to invest that year and to start making it a habit--hunkering down with two or three pages a night of great literature. There may not be a sign more overrated than eye contact, even "plenty" of it. It could mean curiosity, a way to project dominance, or even hostility. In the absence of a smile, it is unlikely it's all that important, and should always be interpreted in the context of other behaviors. In your case you did and the results were unfavorable, at best.

Taken along with her walking right past you, I would default to the theory that you overestimated the meaning behind the eye contact.
