It can be either depending on how you carry yourself with it.

If you're walking around with bandaids on and you're embarrassed about it, it's DLV. If you walk around like getting a hickey is no big deal to you and it happens all the time, it's DHV.

Own it. Great question. If your getting hickeys from other women this will turn her preselection attraction switch (look it up). What it says if you're wanted by other women you'll get more women. A hickey on your neck shows that another woman was intersted in you enough to perform the task. This will make other women more interested in you. Also, if you want to be cocky/funny about it, just tell the other girls that some jealous girl you aren't serious with did it to mark her territory...lol.

I've gotten more female attention from them... I wouldn't ever think of using them as a "Tactic", but they certainly don't hurt.

I don't know if it's just me, but walking around with a hickey might make you seem like you're still in middle school or something. I try to avoid hickeys in general.

Depends on the girl, really. I'd steer clear in general, since you're more likely to find someone put off by the though of you sleeping with other women than you are at finding someone turned on by it.

Anti-slut defences and all that. Still, it happens, I wouldn't stop talking to girls because of a hickey or two.

I personally think hickeys make everyone look bad. Even if a girl thinks, "hey, he gets girls, now i want him too because im a girl and I get jealous" you still have that physical evidence right in front of her that reminds her that another girl has just been there. While it's good to have girls know you can get other girls in general, I believe the hickey is not a good method for this.

It depends on the girl. If she wants you, but isn't direct about it, but doesn't want you to hook up with anyone else but her, it'll be a DLV. Which won't really matter, because this girl is not one that you want to be hanging out with.

More likely, it's a DHV. If you don't apologize for it (by covering it up unnecessarily) and don't draw attention to it (again, by covering it up unnecessarily) its the best indicator of preselection around. Everyone knows that some girl liked you enough to give you that hickey, you don't need to say anything, and you're not "bragging" because you couldn't make it go away if you wanted to.

If a girl brings it up, brush it off with an obvious joke ("Got singed in a lightsaber duel. You think that's something, you should've seen the other guy." etc) and DO NOT GIVE AWAY ANY INFO ABOUT HOW IT HAPPENED. Keep it mysterious.

You probably didn't blow it. And if you did, it wasn't because of your hickey, it was your reaction. Pick yourself up and remember the lesson for next time. And get some preselection mileage out of those hickeys while you still have them ;)

My personal opinion is that they shouldn't be placed where they can be seen (neck, collarbone, etc) just because it doesn't look good to a boss, customer, professor, etc. Very unprofessional.

If you're not in a monogamous relationship - that's also a no. It's a major turn off for any other girl you're trying to get with. (Source: Personal experience as well as sex-talks with chicks I know.)

However - if you have a single (or various, depending on what you're into) partners that you see exclusively, I think it's fine - as long as they're not visible.
