Dancing isn't about "moves" it's about we expressing yourself to the music. If you do just moves, good luck dancing for more than one song straight. Just do what actions the song makes you think of. Depending on the music it could be driving down the road or "getting low" ;)

Just have fun and girls will see that. They just want to have fun as well. If you don't care how you dance they will feel more comfortable on their own dancing and you can dance together/move together.

Some of the best dance sessions I've had, me and a girl did not touch that much during it. But afterward we did.

There are no short cuts here to really getting comfortable. But you could check out tutorial on YouTube.com by searching terms like "dance" and "tutorial" and "hip-hop," or whatever.

Here's an example.

Aside from this, you could sign up for a dance class. Hip-hop classes will often cover a basic vocabulary of moves you can actually use for a wide variety of different genres of dance music.

And one thing you'll discover, the more you learn about dance: most people don't have the faintest fucking clue what they're doing or what their bodies are doing in space.

Look, if you don't enjoy dancing on your own, you're going to be approaching this from a needy perspective if you think of it directly in terms of "how do I dance with a girl?" It can be the thing you want to happen, that's fine, but you have to be capable of having your own fun and enjoyment on your own so you will attract people. It's better to attract people than to try to chase them.

Irrelevant. If you are having your own fun without the need to chase them, they'll break apart and come to you.

Don't over think it, it will show.

Smiles. High fives. Clinking glasses. Hip bumps. Head bobbing. Etc.

That can get you in if you're not stiff and overly concerned about your "moves".

It's not Step Up the Movie... so don't treat it like it is. You'll be fine!

First of all, breaking into a group of dancing girls can only be done with the right dose of confidence. It's extremely hard and the timing has to be right. Secondly, you learn dancing overtime. I saw a really funny, but true, instructional scene in a movie about dancing sometime. Think it was Crazy, Stupid, Love. It's about a guy in your position. They say you should dance "nowadays" by side-stepping and front/backstepping. From there on, try creating some moves you are comfortable with. And keep confident!

Have fun. Smile. It honestly does not matter what you do as long as you have a good time doing it. Do not give a shit about anyone watching, if they don't like how you dance then that is their problem, not yours.

You could be the most awkward uncoordinated dude ever, as long as you are having a genuinely good time it does not matter.

Matbe watch a couple popular music videos where the artist is dancing. Think you can do a little of that well? Great. Do it. Think you can't do it well? Great, do it and make fun of yourself just a little bit. Dancing is not about being technical, it is about having fun and just moving. Let it flow, let yourself go, and have fun.

most community halls have dance lessons for $10 in hip hop and break dancing, well worth it as there is no judgement and you meet a lot of cute girls who are trying to learn too

My advice is dont overthink it and just try to have fun and dont be stiff. I got invited to an Indian rave a few months ago. Ive never been to any kind of rave and was worried id look stupid but i had a few beers just moved around like others were doing and had a blast. You'll be ok man, just watch what other people are doing and try to have a good time.

Listen to dance-able music, all the time. When possible, dance. Move and even keep it simple. Practice dancing at the end of the beat or in the pocket of the beat.
Move purposefully but relaxed, tension kills movement.

Take a social dancing class, Swing, Soul, Blues, Tango. Swing/Blues/Jazz will give you a better basis for dancing in general as most modern movement in pop culture came from Blues swing and jazz dancing. Also social dancing will require you to meet a lot of women in one night as most classes require rotation of dancers so that they experience new people. A great chance to work your game in a no pressure environment.

It's all baby steps, amigo. Focus on being comfortable dancing alone on the dance floor.

I personally don't try to go for groups because they take up too much of my time. As /u/recycleablebantha put it, if a girl sees that you're having fun she will naturally gravitate towards you.

This dance move, particularly, shows non-neediness

Some basic stuff I'd consider:

Don't be a dancing monkey (Dancing really crazy for attention)
Focus on self-enjoyment. Smile. At the end of the night you're just another guy having fun.
Get comfortable making eye contact and smiling.
Go with one friend [max] to ease up that nervousness.

There are a few core dances, in my opinion, that one should learn such as being able to dance forward with a girl (Your leg under her thigh). Other than that, it's all about having fun, making eye contact, and moving them off the dance floor.

I feel ya man, always thinking about not looking stupid. I used to be nervous like you. Then ~~I took an arrow to the knee~~ I started to just go and go until I didn't care what others thought of me.
