I know it's a bit of a classic newbie subject that people get a bit 'stuck on' when in truth, what you open with is not really a big deal.

But i'm kind of curious.

I tried to watch lots of infields to get a handle on it, but in videos, since pickup coaches basically always game in tourist destinations, they always open with like ''Are you Swedish?'' or ''Hey, where are you from?!'' sort of thing which, where I live, would make no sense since I just live in a small place where there's no tourists.

I've experimented with all kinds of openers in the last few months.

For me, the best openers are either when you get lucky with the situation providing you with an opener or a question (maybe the girl is wearing a fancy dress outfit or something)

OR if I open with something funny and scripted. For example, I nearly always get a good reaction with opening in a ridiculous way like just walking up to them and telling them that they're under arrest and that the police are waiting for them or something!

I live in Wales for what it's worth, and people aren't receptive in the same way that Americans seem to be too a simply ''hey! I'm Dave'' kind of opener/introduction. In the US, even though you can still obviously get rejected off the bat, that opener still seems 'normal', whereas in the UK, you get a kind of ''why are you talking to me/telling me this?!'' sort of look/response. It's just a little cultural diference

And often I can't think of a good opener in terms of things going on around us.

Also, The more 'silly' kind of openers seem more congruent when it's very late in a bar and everyone is completely loosened up, but then I struggle lots more with the early part of the night where opening in one of the more silly ways (like pretending to be their blind date or placing them under arrest etc) wold make you look a bit weird, lol

I actually got a brilliant reaction with the 'blind date' opener on the weekend, but again, it was fairly late and the situation just felt right for that kind of opener, not to mention that she was sitting alone as if she actually was waiting for a date :)

So yeah, what kind of more 'general/all purpose' openers do you guys use in nightgame in bars as opposed to manic nightclubs
