Hey,

First you need to decide whether you want to be very charismatic, energetic, and humorous, or extremely chill and laid back. You can determine what will work best by studying your natural personality in addition to your body type and appearance.

Think from the girls perspective which style would come off more congruent to the way you look.

Next: know it's not what you say, but the vibe you're giving off in general. If your vibe is right and congruent anything you say will hit home.

Lastly, use your intellect man. Listen keenly to what the girl is saying and take time to think of the best response before you speak. Sometimes you won't have shit to say so you have to make eye contact with her and relish in the silence until the next topic comes up.

Frankly if it isn’t genuine it isn’t worth saying. The way I see it if you’re like me and you have a maximum social limit before your words and conversational skills burn out. I would say to try and stop thinking of things to say and be yourself. If you can’t talk because you’re overwhelmed or at a loss for words, then why force yourself, people are more perceptive and can tell when you’re uncomfortable and not genuine. Conversation and expression is a skill, it took me years of talking with friends in school/bars/etc until I got to a point where I could be myself and add a little charisma. Don’t worry and find people that understand you.

There are several things you can do to keep a conversation going, but as u/SpecialPowerss said, make sure that it's congruent to your style.

1 - One of the easiest things to do is asking follow-up questions to whatever she's talking about. Create a whole story about it in your head, ask the questions needed to paint the picture. Where was she, who were the other people involved, how did she feel, etc.

2 - Another thing you can do is to follow up with "That must've been (adjective)." or "How did that make you feel?" Something like this can go a long way to prolonging a conversation, as people are very good at talking about themselves.

3 - If you feel a conversation just dying entirely, especially on a date, you can try the Question Game. Explain it like this:

Rule 1: No repeat questions. So, anything I ask, you can't ask and vice versa.

Rule 2: No 'boring' questions like "What's your favorite color?" and...

Rule 3: You go first.

This is a great game for getting to know someone better, and you can always follow up to find out more about whatever answer they give to questions. Perfect for finding conversation topics or shared interests and passions.

4 - If you're like me and your mind tends to wander a lot, you can lean into it. Seemingly random questions can be fun conversation starters. When the conversation starts sputtering out, you can just pick something out of thin air and go with it. "Who would win in a fight? 1 crocodile or 100 ducks?" Doesn't really matter what it is, as long as the frame of reference is there for her, so don't ask about anime characters or something she won't know about.

5 - As a backup to the above ideas, you can create a list of go-to questions that you can use in most any conversation. "What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?" "If you could say one thing, just one thing, to the person you first kissed now, what would it be?" "Who was more of a prick, mom or dad?" Again, pretty much anything can work here as long as you avoid boring questions, they need to inspire some sort of emotion or create a conversation on their own.

Brush up on your listening skills. Nodding is a sign of interest and let’s people know you’re paying attention so that’s a good start but typically you just follow up and when that topic has run dry just pick something else and see if they bite. Part of being a good conversationalist is being genuine and engaged, listen to understand not just respond and this takes practice but when the topic is getting boring you have to know when to switch gears. Let’s say you’re on a date and chatting about work but you’re running out of things to talk about or questions to ask, you can switch topics like, “It’s great to hear about your work, your job sounds really interesting. Hey, have you ever been here before? I chose this place because xyz.”

I’m mostly in the same boat, but I’d say be interested in her lifestyle, ask questions and just start focusing as any normal interaction you have, you can be playful and throw jokes there and there but know that you don’t need to, so don’t force yourself in throwing jokes, one joke is enough then when it becomes natural increase the jokes, I’d say just go with the flow and just try to know her without really putting her on a pedestal cuz you actually don’t know her, (Ask about songs she likes, give your opinion, Ask about her birthday and Zodiac sign, give your opinion, Ask about whatever next, give your opinion.. and believe me if she’s friendly or interested she’ll ask about you) And just when things are getting really well, ask about her socials.

I know once I had been in a conversation with a girl in real life for almost half an hour and my questions really fizzled out, so I stayed quiet “and my brain was ohhh this is awkward what should I ask next”, just then she asked me a question herself and I laughed in my head about my anxiety..! But if you find yourself in a similar situation and you feel she’s not going to ask questions, say it was nice talking to you and leave, but don’t be in a hurry to run away, cuz it was a conversation not a war.

Ohh and one last thing, I have very limited attention span, so if you really just nodding your head without listening, you could say “so wait you.... then what happened” or you could make a flirty comment “sorry I was distracted while looking at you, what was the last sentence you said” .. People who talk wouldn’t mind repeating themselves if they are talking about subject they like and there is someone that is listening
