If your at a bar, and the person is sitting at the bar, that usually means they're open to being approached. If they're sitting at a table it means they wanna be left alone.

You'll get a better social inution for who looks approachable the more you go out.

Open body language approachable. Closed body language, less likely to want to be approached.

Doesn't matter either way. Approach who you want, if they're not interested you'll find out quickly and can just walk away

I'll give you an example

Last Saturday I went to a bar with a group of friends. Behind me, there were tables with women around ours.

In front of me, a table of like 6 chicks and 1 guy. They looked young (around 22) and a bit shy, because they weren't standing up and dancing or anything, they were just sitting drinking and chatting between themselves. Behind me: 3 chicks (looked in their 30's) in their own table, standed up drinking and dancing.

Who would you approach?

When danceable music started, I just approached one of the chicks behind me. Grabbed her hand and introduced myself. Asked her name then she asked mine and I said "what name do I look like?" and she said "Adrian", I ROLFD and she cracked up too. Then we danced and talked for a while.

So how did I read the room?

My thought process was that those sitted chicks were boring and the ones behind me were more fun. If I approached one of the sitted, based on their projected attitude, was unlikely for one to stand up to chat with me. And I would have looked like a fool. The ones behind me were safer and more likely to be open to at least chat.
