I walked into the room (one that was completely new to me just yesterday) & went to bed number 3.

“Actually, you’re on bed number 2 today” she said.

Not sure what it was but I had really hoped to go back to bed number 3 today. You know, since that’s the one I was on yesterday.

I was taken back a little, I went back into unfamiliarity.

This was just 2 weeks ago back home in Cyprus (where health care is free ehm) and I had a physiotherapist appointment for my back.

It was then that something dawned on me.

l'm still addicted to comfort.

When I'm at a new gym, within the first day or 2 I'll have my 'dedicated' locker that I'll go to on auto pilot.

When I was at college, there was a desk that became 'my desk' from day 1.

Anything that disrupts these is uncomfortable (/a little annoying)

Now, some people might say:

"It's just the brain making things easier, one decision less."

That's true, but it makes me think, what else do we become autopilot comfortable with?

The person sitting home day in day out watching netflix, that happened over time? Nope. First time it felt good, then it became a standard comfort zone.

Eating fast food, again instant comfort zone.

NOT socializing when in a group or at a public event.

Comfort. Zone.

We think that it's gradual, but it isn't.

It only takes your brain ONE time for this comfortable setting to be decided as the new standard and then, you'll find yourself 5 years later not realizing how you get there.

I'm giving you a small example, I got uncomfortable when a nurse made me switch beds only 1 day later. I feel that same (ever so slight) discomfort when someone takes MY gym locker.

Growth will seldom happen in the comfort zone, learn to force your brain to do things that aren't as comfortable for you just to keep yourself on your toes.

Start asking yourself daily:

What things am I doing because they're just comfortable?

Can I find new ways to push myself out of the comfort zone no matter how small?
