So how long have you lived in X, what brought you here, what do you like to do for fun, what was the hardest thing to get used to about x, what do you wish x had more of, what's your favorite conversation topic, have you ever been hit on like this before, how did it go, what's the last concert you went to, what are your top 3 bucket list items, etc...

it's not that hard

Have a normal conversation. Don't try to be a clown and use canned routines or put on an act/persona. Use your environment to make observations or ask basic questions, but don't trap them into a conversation vortex. Ask for a number if the vibe is promising. You can obviously still talk to women for the practice even if you don't intend to date them or see them after your first conversation. Be positive. And learn to gauge body language. If you get the impression she's not interested or she says "I have a boyfriend," you move on.

So I see a girl in the pub of any public place next time start with a random topic about the surrounding that she can't just say thanks...

Then after some conversation check the vibe and go on

Usually, I just ask a question based on the environment we’re in. For instance, at the mall, I’d just ask if she knows any good places to eat here nearby. That or I give a compliment.

This is why we have scripts/routines/gambits. It will give you a reason to start a conversation and you will also know what to say next because if you start in the right way it is very easy.

Once you gain experience you won't need a routine/gambit, but for a month or so it will be a huge help.
