I'm a typical college undergrad with a part time job, hit the gym three days a week, and try to keep myself entertained with friends when I have the time.

My biggest problem is social interaction. Every time I get into a conversation I half-ass it.

I have a bad habit of standing with my feet facing away from people, like I'm ready to eject from the conversation at any moment. Any time the conversation slows down and there's a bit of tension, my amygdala goes crazy, I get an adrenaline rush, and lose track of my thoughts. I feel like I need to end the conversation immediately and leave. If not, I'll go off topic, start talking really fast, and speak with my throat voice instead of my chest voice.

I'm pretty good at hiding this and blending in, but it sucks. I never feel fully absorbed in what I'm doing. Instead, my mind floods with racing thoughts, judgmental thoughts about others, excuses to avoid confrontation, and so on.

A few years ago I was the complete opposite. I was able to embrace the tension, read social cues, and stay with the flow of any conversation with any person. How can I get myself back on track?
