Just make sure you're not just saying "Hi." and that you are not trying to impress them right off the bat. Remember, you are screening them. Not the other way around. You are exactly what they want and need. Whether they are that for you remains to be seen.

I usually read their profile and take something and try to make a funny out of it. But most of all don't take it seriously. Example: if she says she likes hiking (because all girls apparently) I usually say something like "you like hiking? I too like to live on the edge."
