Best advice for starters, keep track of local media and news. You will amlost certainly find subjects to talk about for your next small talk conversation. Espacially keep an eye out for the "fait divers", the more funny stories like "local man tries do get his dog to perform backflips". Those will be your funny subjects to turn into stories.

It's really all about having fun with the girl, it's like in Buddhism, the goal is the journey to the goal. Try to get the most fun and laughter out of your pick up as possible, don't be stiff and explain her how an intake valve works or how you build a woodhouse for your niece (that's the subject you should share with the boys). Tell her about that funny scenery you'vre read about (or have seen!)
