I always respond with "When you're through thinking, say yes." Usually gets a laugh.
(When you're through thinking, say yes is the name of Yellowcard's new album, they are playing this huge concert on campus in a few weeks, city is abuzz about it... So, it's topical, but you might not be able to use it because it is localized/situational)

TIL Yellowcard is still making music

You are the only one
[–]x755x 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I didn't even realize the context. It still seems like a good line.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I like this. I can totally see it being pulled off with the "cocky and funny" frame.
[–]ikkake 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Probably would not get the reference. Thanks for idea though.
[+]Shohn64 -7 points-6 points-5 points 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
If she doesn't get the reference, tease her about it. They aren't some obscure no name band.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 7 points8 points9 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You think that every girl out there is going to know the name of Yellowcard's new album? I don't even know any girls who could name "Ocean Avenue" as one of their songs, and that one was huge. Teasing somebody over a relatively obscure bit of trivia just makes you look like a nerdy douche.
"*snicker* How could you not know that The Trouble With Tribbles was a super-famous Star Trek episode!"
[–]Shohn64 -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That's why you don't say it like a jackass, you say "OH, you don't know Yellowcard?" When she gives you shit about your response. It's just an easy way to play it off. It's all about tone.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Saying "Oh, you don't know Yellowcard" isn't teasing, though. You said to tease her if she doesn't get the reference, which is very different from that. Generally speaking, people don't like their ignorances pointed out to them and will get upset if you do it.
[–]Shohn64 -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"Oh, you don't know Yellowcard?" smile, small snicker, slight eye roll, "We're NEVER going to be able to get married!" Tonality is cocky (pointed out above), probably give her some shoulder kino while saying this. "They're only like the greatest band ever, I can't believe tou don't know them! We'll have to fix that, they're having a concert next weekend at the park, you and I are totally going together now!"
Substitute concert with "come over to my place and listen to the CD" if you don't live in Macon, GA.
Before I get hell for it, the married thing is not mine, it's someone else's, but said in the right tone, it's gold. I use it when a girl disses on my drink choice. The tone with the expectation that she's shown LV IS teasing, but because of your tone and what you say after, you don't piss her off or come off like a jackass.
Again, situational by location. I tease girls about YC because it's a huge thing in my city right now.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 17 points18 points19 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
For the record, these kinds of specific situational question should go in /r/askseddit instead of here.
And no, it's not a shit test. She doesn't want to give you a straight answer because she isn't terribly interested or you haven't given her enough reason to be invested in saying yes. Take it easy and if you should get a chance to talk to her again, do it, but don't concern yourself over whether it happens or not. Outcome independence, my friend.
[–]Marsupian 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I don't really think it's a shit test. I think she either can't decide and wants to think about it or she doesn't want to say no but also doesn't want to hang out.
btw. Work relationships are almost always a really bad idea.
[–]Lead ModeratorThrowawayPUA 13 points14 points15 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You should never, ever have a relationship with someone at work, unless you want to.
[–]ikkake 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thought so myself.
By work I mean same company, almost no relation work wise, totally different departments and rarely see each other. Still silly idea, should stick to my own rules even if it seems to be worth it ;)
[–]simpleseddit 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah man, I'm thinking she doesn't want to rock the work boat. Work relationships are a huge gamble. This is coming from someone that has been dating a co-worker for the last 7 months. It's risky as hell and even though this worked out, it's glaringly obvious to me now how bad this could turn out.
Plenty of other girls out there, trust me.

I defeated "I will think about this" double shit test as follows:
After walking home a girl (which was giving me obviously positive signals) I asked her for a date in 2 days, "I will think about this" (shit test I)
After one day I get on facebook some shitty-excuses why she cannot come, because she is meeting with some foreign-language conversation partner that normally is out of town and has no time. I call her immediately and in absolutely alpha and joking tone say things like
Me "My heart is broken! Cannot you just tell this guy you are going on a date or something?" She is mostly very positive and flirty, except with a bit stiff reaction to this "having a date" joke. Me "Ok, so lets meet in 3 days" She "I will think about this" (shit test II) Me "Ok, I assume, well, I HOPE this time you will make it" (that was beta, don't to this line. Better is "you think too much") Me "And one more thing, are you going to this group meeting in two days? I'm looking forward to seeing you there" She "Probably yes"

She "Probably yes"
A day after the first missed date we are on the mentioned group meeting. I talk to her, kino her hair and when I have occasion for private talk while walking through the city I say
Me "So at what time do we meet at Monday?" (Monday is in 2 days) She "<again more shit>" Me "<some alpha joke she is committing serious crime by rejecting my offer>" She "But you can always go with other girls" Me "Right now, I don't care about other girls, I am interested only in you. But you have to make up your mind now, because I already have alternatives" She "What alternatives?" Me <silence>

She "What alternatives?"
Me <silence>
She immediately locked her body language and tried to flirt with other guy. I walked her home and said "OK, we won't probably see each other soon, so see you sometime". She said "yap" and hugged me.
Then I waited 5 days and called her. Missed call. Wrote on facebook "I want to talk to you. Tell me when you will have time" She responded after about 2 hours "I am at my place, you can come in" I came and she was going for f-close.
Two important things to note:
she was suspecting me for being womanizer, thus I had to directly tell her I am interested only in her and the "alternatives" card sounded plausible to her.
she was leaving next day for 4 weeks after the day she invited me to her place.

This is no different to the 'I'll think about it' you got from your parents when you asked to go to Disney Land when you were 8, it's a no.
[–]quivering_manflesh 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
So "Ask your father" is probably also a bad response then?
[–]helldogskris 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
lol'd! Would be a priceless response.
[–]D3l7a3ch0 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yes it is a bad idea, because whether it goes super or crappy, you have to see this person repeatedly. 2 rules: not on school nights, and don't mess with your allowance.
had I been beamed into your body at that moment, my response would be a quizzical expression and,"you can say no, you know. ...it's ok."

"Don't hurt yourself," with a smile.
