Standing up for yourself in this type of situation means that you are affected by what that person thinks of you. You are held hostage to their opinion. You are effectively considering that their concept of who you are is more important than your very own, which is fucked up.

Agreeing and amplifying means that you don't give a fuck about what they think. What they do or say becomes an amusement to you; it becomes fun, meaningless banter. You know who you are and what you're worth, and you don't need validation from others to know this. That is confidence.

Flip the shit on them. They'll show desperation because they can't get inside your head. And it's fun.

Standing up for yourself is only something you should do when it really matters, like... I don't know, getting a raise at your job when you absolutely believe you deserve it. That's a more serious situation than a rando calling you fat during happy hour. Save your shit-giving for what really matters.

Confidence is the ultimate form of self-respect.

It's a good tactic but you don't have to always bother yourself with agreeing and amplifying if you don't want. You must be however unreactive and show that you are not affected and your reality regarding yourself is not influenced.

Let's say you're really skinny and someone calls you obese. Would you 'stand up for yourself', and try to prove them wrong? Of course not, because what they said is absolutely ridiculous. Standing up for yourself means you concede that their opinion has merit, but disagree. Laughing it off, amplifying it, turning it on them, shows that its as ridiculous as calling a 7 foot dude short, or a weightlifter out of shape.
