In my opinion he is right. I try to use just enough emojis to appear nice and engaging through text. So my rule of thumb is using half as many emojis as the girl and not more than 1 per individual message. Also I try to stick to a small and basic set of emojis instead of going crazy with the huge selection there is.

Texting is a type of communication where you have 0% body language, which is much more important than talking. Thus, if you want to text about something other than logistics, at some point you have to use an emoji or 2, otherwise the message is "dry" or doesn't portray your thoughts correctly.

On the other hand, your buddy is right - go overboard with them and you look childish at best.

I never use an emoji until she does.

Even then I keep it super low key and don't over do it.

I personally like the cowboy emoji, not many people use it and its really silly and can be sexualized. It's a good substitute for the wink emoji. Other than the cowboy and crying laughing emoji I don't touch them.

Yeah you can use them but just not too much, I only use like 3 emojis. But to be real it doesn't really matter, it's not gonna make or break your game
