Starting around January, I chased after this girl (we were both seniors in HS and are now in the summer before college). I never really got anywhere, but we hooked up in May. I began to grow resentful of her because she kept going after a guy that treated her like shit but she inexplicably liked. Naturally, I grew less attracted and eventually stopped pursuing her or having feelings for her.

Fast forward to last night. She invites me over to another mutual friends house. It's a small group and they're all partying, but I find her crying and being consoled at one point. I come to find out that she broke it off with this guy because no one approved of the relationship and she accepted she was being mistreated. She's upset though because he continues to be an asshole to her.

Later that night, I took a step outside because it got hot inside and she joined me. She started telling me how she fucked up by not choosing me to begin with and she seriously regretted her decision. I told her that i really didn't regret how things turned out because she pushed me to grow out of my comfort zone and I had never really had an experience like it before (it was because of her I found seddit and really started to push myself to become an overall better person). She was a bit taken aback, but we continued and just talked for a bit.

Later in the night, I found myself consoling her as she was crying and she tried getting me to come to bed with her, but I was seriously disinterested because of out past together.

The whole night got me thinking about my relationship with her and my relationship with girls in general. I realize that I care deeply for this girl, but I am entirely against the idea of hooking up with her in any way. I was just wondering if this is something that all men experience in their relationships with women as they mature or if I am just fooling myself.
