Are you being you or are you playing a "pickup" character?

The reason people stress Inner Game so much is because it takes a deep identify-level change to fully internalize the emotions and meaning behind the "alpha lines" that you mention.

I think the key word is "lines". You shouldn't be using a "persona" but just be. It is extremely rare to pass yourself off as someone you aren't.

It might be because you are physically unattractive. If you do not look like a typical alpha, people can be weirded out when you start trying to act like one.

Also, you have to actually BE alpha, not just talk like you think an alpha would. It can be really awkward and uncomfortable for people to see someone who is clearly trying really hard to be someone he is not. If you sound like you are just parroting lines, not actually being calm and in control, nobody is going to respect you or enjoy your company, you will just be a strange annoyance.

I am telling you this from the point of view of someone who is what some PUA's call a "natural". I was blessed with good genes and luckily I am an attractive guy who has always gotten attention from women. This led to me not being intimidated by women and having some experience from early on, I am confident when I approach them. I recently came across this Reddit and I found it interesting and I have tried incorporating some of the ideas here into my technique.

I have started noticing how there are a lot of guys out in bars and clubs who have obviously read some dating advice or PUA websites. Unfortunately, most of these guys don't actually have the confidence to use the techniques successfully. I have been out with female friends when guys try to pick them up and if the guy is like what I have just described, they can be pretty vicious in laughing at him and talking about it later. They can sense the phoniness.

You need to be careful when you start trying to use advice from on here. Some people give it in a way where they are trying to make it seem really simple so people here feel comfortable going out and putting it to use, but a lot of the time, it isn't as simple and straightforward as they like to say it is.

You didn't give much background, but from how it sounds, either you are unattractive and therefor no amount of "alpha lines" are going to help you until you sort that out, or you are coming off as phony and trying too hard, which can be just as bad. One other possibility is that you are using cocky, alpha "shit test responses" in situations that don't actually call for them. If a girl is just talking to you and not intentionally shit-testing you, and then you come out of left field with some arrogant little comeback she is going to be like "wtf, who is this guy".

You need to look good, internalize whatever personality you are trying to be to the point where you believe it yourself, and you need to be calm and smooth and natural. Don't just parrot lines. It looks awkward and make people uncomfortable and they won't like you.
